For me the printing process is part of the magic of photography. It's that magic that can be exciting, disappointing, rewarding and frustrating all in the same few moments in the darkroom. - John Sexton
The above quote captures what is so enchanting to me about the darkroom. The thrill of bringing a piece of work into a figurative laboratory to be interpreted and made into a physical object. Put in this context, the negative serves only as the starting point of an image and the print its final form.
And when you get it right, it’s pure goddamned magic.
But as Sexton notes, nothing in the darkroom comes easy. There are frustrating moments, where math, fatigue, and alchemy conspire against you. There is trial and error..and often more error, before you are able to call a print ‘finished.’
I will be available to make darkroom prints of your black and white negatives starting in March of 2016, when I return from a well deserved vacation. At that time, I will provide a pricing guide and scanned examples of my darkroom work.
